Most any marine radio that’s not priced too cheap should be sufficient to hunt on but the Antenna is as important as the radio is. Get u a good quality antenna. The distance I was told is 3’ or more. The more distance obviously the safest bet. Hope my two cent worth helps u out
Cobra hh350 handheld is a good start for the money. I just upgraded to the MR HH450 Dual and it does a lil better. It has a longer antenna and a few more features than the 350. As far as I know it doesn't effect with your tracking boxes (beep beep or gps). We been using them for years and was the best thing I think we have done. I run a Uniden fixed mount in truck with a Wilson lil wil magnetic base antenna. Only one I have ever had and it talks with the best of them. Wire it straight to the battery to prevent any engine noises.

Just for information - It is illegal to use Marine Radois on land. It can result in a major fine and jail time by the FCC if caught. Use at your own risk. All it will take is one complaint to them.
You are right, marine radios are illegal to use on land by the FCC. I’m a licensed ham radio operator and there are ham operators that live around the lakes of Virginia and North Carolina that has boats and they hear the hunt clubs on the marine frequencies so all it will take is somebody to say something to the FCC because they talk about them ever year about the hunt clubs hunting on marine frequencies on land but again use at own risk. I would call the FCC and get a VHF or UHF frequency so you will be covered, you can apply for how ever many radios that will be used under that frequency. (That will be your frequency nobody else) It’s a bunch of hunt club in southern Virginia that has gone to UHF to hunt on. They are putting mobiles in the trucks an getting handheld also. Works like a champ. My 50 cent worth.
