I worked at Ravenscraig from 1985 to 1989 in the canteen at the coke ovens and also the small canteens dotted around the steel works. My father Andy Greenhorn worked firstly at the Clyde Ironworks at Tollcross before transferring to the Craig. I have fond memories and many stories of my time there

Hi,
I was an apprentice mechanical engineer at BSC Mossend and Clydebridge during the early 70\'s. I spent a bit of time in the machine shop at Clydebridge and was hoping you had some images of the shop.
Great website, I must compliment you on the detail.

Regards,
Chris Curness

Hello Mr. Findlay,

My name is Aaron Carmichael and I am from Cal State University Long Beach in California, United States. I am doing a historical research project in regards to the \"Scottish Working Class\" centered around my family from Cambuslang. I have two questions for you.

1) Do you have any records, or know where I can retrieve them of Carmichael\'s working in Coal and or Steel mines? I know that my ancestors did work in these industries, but I do not know for what company exactly.

2) Do you have any information about labour unions for these industries between the years of 1850-1950?

Thank you for your time, I really appreciate it.

I have a fob watch chain with a medallion attached that came down from my grandfather. On the obverse it has a shield with the letters M.R and on the reverse it has his name G. Thomson 1924, my great grandfather. He was 70 in 1924 and I wonder if received the watch and chain as a retirement presentation. He died ijn 1934 and his death certificate states he was a retired steelworks foreman.

Hello - congratulations on a very informative website detailing an important area of Scottish history. Its good to see someone pulling together as much information as possible regarding a particular subject. As you will see from my site , I too have a niche interest - that being the Scottish brick history, which in itself sits snuggly along side the steel industry and its rise and fall. Do you ever come across any old Scottish bricks on your travels or indeed do you know anyone that may have worked in the industry as I am always looking for insight! Once again thanks for a great read. Best regards Mark
