I have just learned from Fr. Frank Nolan that Brother Patrick O'Reilly (known to many of us as Brother Owen) passed away this afternoon. He was remembered fondly by many of the students who attended St. Columba's and Danby Hall in the 1960's.
Below is the text of the message Frank forwarded to me:
Dear Brothers & Sisters
Today Brother Patrick died (June 14th) in the nursing home where he had been resident for several years.
He died peacefully about one thirty pm with one of the nurses in attendance.
Justin and I have just returned from praying the prayers for the dead with him.
For several days he had been unresponsive and unable to eat or drink. It is a blessed release for him.
May he rest in peace and now enjoy the reward of a long missionary life spent in Scotland. Burkina. England and France
Of course, he was known to many of us as Br Owen a much-loved member of the junior seminary staff back in the day.
I have just been informed that Bro. Owen’s funeral will take place in the chapel at the nursing home in Brentford where he lived for the last few years of his life.
