I left the ironworker trade in 1989 because of an injury. I loved the job!! I recently published a book about my experiences, \"Maidin Iron\" It can be found on Amazon and eBooks. I still weld, but only for family and friends. |

My Father, Brother, Son are all former of current Ironworkers. I was a punk at 17 back in 1956. I loved structural and connecting. Got stuck with tying rods and poured concrete and re-bar. Gave it up and got a degree,. But the rest of the family did well as Ironworkers --- good trade and I am proud of them. My youngest (28 year old is considering becoming an Iron Man. Hope he does--strong like the rest of his family. Will be a good job for him. Let us hope the powers that be put some money into our infrastructure and get us back to work! |

Started out in Detroit back in 1974 and came through Denver in 1981 and saw over 40 tower cranes just downtown, moved there and became Forman running Republic Plaza (tallest building in Denver). Lots of good memories there and now live in Kansas City area, 36 years as Ironworker and still going.>> Grandfather, uncles, brothers, cousins all Ironworkers but am the only one left from that group. My son in law is an Ironworker now and the Grand kids (which are 17) say they are going to get in also. Wish I could show pictures of where I have been on the past 36 years, worked on the tallest building in Detroit, Louisville, Denver and Kansas City. Currently General forman but might retire this summer? be safe[8-) |
