We met with Dad's physician today and after all the tests, Dad has been diagnosed with Stage 3 Esophagael Cancer. There are four stages and 3 and 4 are considered advanced.
He starts chemo tomorrow and radiation on Monday - the doctor has also increased his pain medication to make him more comfortable.
The doctors were considering a feeding tube but Dad is able to eat soft foods, so that has been postponed for now.
The success rate for this type of cancer is very ,very low since the cancer is advanced once symptoms (like hoarseness) start appearing. The doctors in Petersburg give him six to eighteen months. We have great hope that it will be much, much more than that.
Thanks for your well-wishes and prayers! Dad doesn't really want to receive visitors this week but is very appreciative of all of his friends.

The doctors determined today that Dad will not be able to receive radiation because the cancer is in his windpipe. He is receiving chemotherapy though and the medicine they are giving him related to the chemo is making him very groggy.
He is still not up to seeing anyone right now. He's very uncomfortable from both the side effects of the cancer and from being hospitalized.
He should be coming home this weekend. I'll keep you updated!
