    Re: Best trailing hound?

    MS -

He's gotta be very very quiet . What they call a sneak attack.

    Re: Best trailing hound?

The best trailing hound I've had would be Rueben, off Pretty Boy Watt's x Carolina. Pretty Boy was a half brother to your Alf Dog and Carolina was a straight Flower's bred female. He could find and run red foxes and coyotes when other's couldn't.

    Re: Best trailing hound?

There was an old hound, years ago, called Denver Haggin that trailed the way I wished mine would.
He had a big squall mouth, would work a cold track but wouldn't open til it was reasonably hot. Then he'd squall about every 200 yards until he jumped. Never seemed to get bogged down once he opened on a track.
Had a hound years ago called Storm. He was the best 'open trailer' I ever had. Would work old tracks and open on them, but wouldn't get hung up the way most hounds that open that freely tend to do. His sire was the old Chancey hound of Al Wrightman's, who was a good start dog in winter conditions but got anchored way too much at other times. His off-spring was much better, for my money.

    Re: Best trailing hound?

nobody cares about the dogs that are capable of this anymore...........electronic devises and wire have eliminated the need for these traits....glad theres still a few that enjoy them...have had and enjoyed a few...and like hunting with a good one !...free barking...or capable of hitting here and there and moving it !......they're gonna get harder and harder to find....maybe the game call companies will keep improving thier products....they're cheaper to produce and easier to find than a real jump dog !

    Re: Best trailing hound?

Toby and Jody both were Elder bred hounds fron South West Oklahoma. Bingo half running walker half coon hound, all 3 could run a track that nothing eles could smell, and they would jump the coyote.
