    Surf & Piers

Gannets have been dive-bombing about two-pier lengths off the beach. Ed Countryman at Ocean's Bait & Tackle said they're hitting pieces of roe mullet that the blues, sharks and tarpon are leaving behind.

He said he can't believe the size of the pompano being caught and he's seen big whiting and a 7-pound sheepshead caught.

Sally Hayes at the Flagler Pier bait shop said bull whiting, weakfish, oversized reds, some sizeable flounder, small pompano and little blues are coming in.

    Tomoka Basin

Capt. Paul Messick said he got a red at the south end of Bulow Creek using shrimp on the outgoing tide, and on the north basin shorline on Wednesday, he got four reds in the lower 20-inch range. Then he hit Strickland's Creek and got two snook on D.O.A. "C.A.L. series jigs in the stark naked color."

    Offshore

Last week a few boats off The Slot up by St. Augustine trolled up some big wahoo and on Saturday, the South 15 gave up two 'hoo to bottom rigs!

Capt. Robert Sorenson said Capt. Lee Lingo ran the Sea Spirit on Saturday and they almost limited out on snapper, got a couple scamp grouper and caught a 40- and 50-pound wahoo off the bottom.

    Ponce Inlet area

Capt. Luke Pearson found a 60-pound sunfish floating around the oysterbars way up the creeks. Weird.

He said there's been slot to just over the slot reds that he's catching around New Smyrna Creek.

He said at the inlet, blues, drum and sheepshead have been chewing hard.

Capt. Fred Robert said the water at the inlet is 62 degrees and snook and loads of big blues are biting. He said outgoing tide has been best and pogies have been in about 26 feet of water.

    Halifax River

Bill Allen at Howard's Bait & Tackle said anglers on the Dunlawton Bridge causeway are getting a few sheepshead, drum and a few small blues.

    Mosquito & Indian River lagoons

Capt. Jeff Dorobiala said he's been sticking to the backwaters, "targeting the sand holes as the sun comes up.

"If you can find any kind of shell bar kind of shoal with deeper sloughs around it, they've been kind of hanging around there in pretty big schools."

He also said reds have been hanging around big mullet.

    Matanzas Inlet area

Capt. Chris Herrera said he's found schools of 20 up to several hundred reds on the flats. Dead low tide has been best, he said. Black drum have been in deep holes north of Matanzas and the river has been full of trout and blues, he said.

    St. Johns River

Capt. Rick Rawlins at Highland Park Fish Camp got six bass Thursday and reported that wind and cold have slowed things down, but specks are still hitting in the run.
