they're going to lick off most anything unless you use boots; udder balm is simply lanolin; personally I like 'pad kote' to tougen up pads; didn't see your original question, but guess you're talking about sore feet/split pads, etc. ?
you can also soak in epsom salt solution if you have time;

Soaking in epsom salts helps, and you can use "Preparation H" gel on them...believe it or not...it works well!! Hope this helps!
