NORTHEAST NC COUNTIES ORDINANCE ALERT,,,,,GATES COUNTY 1st

GOTO NC SPORTING DOG FOR LINKSAND COPY OF PROPOSED changes

    GATES COUNTY UPDATE
Gates Co. dog hunters have mobilized in advance of the 4/4/18 Public Hearing on proposed amendments to the Animal Control Ordinance.
On Wednesday evening, 3/28/18, several dog clubs hosted a constituent event in Eure. This was the third such meeting.
Commissioners Ray Freeman & Billy Felton graciously spent about two hours talking about the development of the proposed changes in the animal control ordinance. They answered questions from the audience, under the watchful eye of moderator Bracey Perry of Gates County Hunt Club.
Both of these Commissioners expressed their own reservations about the proposed changes, but could not speak for what other Commissioners would do.
Attached is a copy of the proposed amendments to the Gates Co. Animal Control Ordinance.
Toward the end of the meeting, representatives of three hunting associations spoke, including Bobby Harris, President of the Albemarle Houndsmen Assn., Johnnie Morse, Board Member of the VA Hunting Dog Alliance, and Henri McClees of the NC Sporting Dog Assn.

PROTECT YOURSELF FROM TRESPASSERS: POST YOUR PROPERTY
Reggie Askew, respected Gates Co. farmer, has been trained in what to expect from AR activists. He advised dog owners to immediately post their property with “No Trespassing signs.” (Note: Purple paint is not sufficient for this purpose.)
    § 14-159.13. Second degree trespass.
    (a) Offense. - A person commits the offense of second degree trespass if, without authorization, he enters or remains on premises of another: (1) After he has been notified not to enter or remain there by the owner, by a person in charge of the premises, by a lawful occupant, or by another authorized person; or (2) That are posted, in a manner reasonably likely to come to the attention of intruders, with notice not to enter the premises.

PETITION OPPOSES CHANGES TO GATES CO. ORDINANCE
Copies of this Petition were widely distributed on Wed night, 3/28/18. To sign, one must 1. Be a Gates Co. resident; 2. Be 18 year of age or older (voting age); and 3. Sign only once (no duplicate signatures).
Tommy Doughtie of Eure must receive all Petitions back no later than 7:00 pm on Monday evening, 4/2/18. (Tommy’s mobile 252-209-6904.)
To collect all Petitions, Tommy will be at the Gates Co. Community Center (by the High School) 130 US Hwy.158 West, Gatesville. Tommy will submit all signatures to the Gate Co. Commissioners at their meeting on Wednesday morning, 4/4/18.

NEW & URGENT: PERQUIMANS COUNTY TETHERING ALERT
On Monday, 4/2/18 at 6:30 pm, Perquimans Co. Commissioners will conduct a Public Hearing & vote on a proposed Tethering Ordinance in the same meeting. (Public Hearing early in the meeting; vote on the proposed changes much later in the same meeting.)
Read the proposed Perquimans Co. Tethering Ordinance by clicking here. Scroll down the webpage to the “Minutes and Agendas.” Click on the 4/2/18 Agenda Package & go to pages 6 & 7 to read the proposed changes to the Perquimans Co. Animal Control Ordinance.
The problematic highlights are as follows:
“Permanent” tethering is absolutely prohibited, but not defined.
“No dog shall be permanently tied, chained, fastened or otherwise tethered to any inanimate stationary object as a means of confinement of the dog to property.” (exact quote)
Prohibited to have dog kennel on separate property from your residence. (There are 2 exceptions, but these do not apply to hunting dogs.)

Please contact all Perquimans County dog hunters to alert them to this drastic proposal. It is unreasonable, illogical, unneeded, and, if passed, would make many dog owners immediate criminals.

PERQUIMANS PUBLIC HEARING: Monday, 4/2/18 6:30 pm Commissioners Room, 1st Floor, Perquimans Co. Courthouse Annex Building, 110 N. Church Street, Hertford, NC (come early to get a seat).

GATES PUBLIC HEARING: Wednesday, 4/4/18 10:00 am in Main Courtroom, 202 Court Street, Gatesville, NC (come early to get a seat).

PETA has attacked with skill and cunning. Activists worked quietly over many months, attending Commission meetings with a drum beat of suggestions, prepared language, and insistent inquiries of when a poor dead dog would be given justice. It is a classic script. The timing is typical, as the AR activists work on the county level while the state Legislature is out of session. They are pushing to get these ordinances passed NOW, as the ringleaders want to return to Raleigh in May.

Call all your dog hunting contacts in Gates and Perquimans Counties. It is critically important local dog hunters are notified of the terrible impact these changes could have on them as dog owners.
