Each February about this time brings with it the end of another “Test of the Best” competition culminating in the announcement of the winners from the previous year. 2017 proved to be a special one for the “Test of the Best”, with yet another record number of hunts parti****ting in this contest. It took an exceptional hound to finish in the top five in the Puppy and 1-Day divisions and these ten individuals more than proved their worth. From a little gyp that came within a hair of being culled before she even started the puppy hunts, to one repeat finisher in the one-day, all the way to a pair of cakes rising to dominate their division, this was a “Test of the Best” for the record book. I want to especially thank each and every hunter who set out to compete in this contest because it demanded dedication and fortitude to place a hound even in the top twenty five.
