House Bill #648 “Responsible Deer Hunting” is scheduled for hearing at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, April 19, 2017. It is the 4th bill on the Agenda of the House Wildlife Resources Committee.
We want to kill this bill. This committee has 15 members. We need at least 8 members, a majority, to vote “No”. Therefore, we are asking you to immediately call key committee members. See attached Chart with information on key members of the Wildlife Committee. This same information is repeated at the end of this email.
Please read this Chart and do the following:
(1) Be polite, brief, and mention HB#648.
(2) You call and ask each of these key committee members to vote NO to HB#648.
(3) Call people who are their constituents (people who live in the Representative’s District)
(4) Spread the word: get other hunters who are their constituents to call and ask them to vote NO.
(5) Spread the word: get other hunters who hunt in their counties to call and ask them to vote NO.
Emails are okay, and I have included links to their email addresses, but telephone calls are better. An email blast to all 120 House members is less effective. An email to Senators is useless, as this bill is not in the Senate.
Do not complain, criticize the Legislature, the Wildlife Resources Commission, or law enforcement. Keep your comments brief, polite and to the point. Thank the Representative for taking time to speak with you on this important matter.
If the Representative seems inclined to talk with you longer, here are some talking points:
This bill is overkill. North Carolina has strong hunting and wildlife laws, including trespass laws. It is already against the law to trespass.
Please do NOT give the Wildlife Resource Commission absolute power over dog hunting! The WRC would use a bill like this to selectively punish dog hunters and get rid of dog hunting. They claim to support dog hunting, but they do not.
They need to enforce existing laws. Giving WRC more power & passing more laws cannot solve problems since they do not enforce existing laws.
The Wildlife Resources Commission ignores comments, recommendations, and desires of hunters in the rule making process. They cannot be trusted to preserve our heritage of dog hunting.
We have a week to communicate our message. Let them hear from you! The key members who intend to oppose this bill need to hear from hunters, too. They need support now.
We appreciate your help on this time sensitive issue. Best always, Henri & Joe

Marvin Lucas will vote no guaranteed. He is a houndsman his self. I hunt with him and he will protect dog hunting. No need to call him
I was in Raleigh supporting my heritage to Dog Hunt... I saw Joe McClees on more than one occasion... One of these occasions was when a big group of Orange Hatted brothers along with myself were standing on the over pass between the Legislature Building and the Legislature Office Building... Never ONCE did he stop and introduce himself... or did he tell us how nice of a job we were doing representing the Dog Hunting Community... that was a perfect opportunity for him to speak to us as a group but he passed us by with out even a wave.... In my opinion that was just as SORRY as you can get... You tell us the Dog Hunting Community you are for us but never make a effort to show us or tell us... This SPORT DOG ASSOCIATION will NEVER EVER EVER EVER get a DIME FROM ME AGAIN... they are not for us they are for the ONES WITH THE MOST MONEY.. if you want to help the Dog Hunting join a Association that is for you like, the Eastern NC Foxhunters, Albermarle Houndsman, East Carolina Houndsmen Alliance... These are headed up by hunters not Lobbyist who take you money and talk from a FORKED TONGUE...

Neil, I somewhat tend to agree with you. The other associations does seem to be in touch with the common folks. But one of the things that the McClees' seem to do well is keeping people updated in their email blasts on what's coming up that we need be aware of. I'm sure that they do more than I'm aware of but I don't have as much confidence in them as I do the other associations that you mentioned.
However, I do not believe that it's not in the best interest of the hound community to divide ourselves, as our opponents are already trying to do that. My advice, for what it's worth is to pick an association that you feel comfortable with and support them as much as possible. One thing that I am sure of is the worst thing you can do is NOTHING. I know it's not worth much but that's just my opinion.

Mr Tim, you are correct on the unification on associations as hunters... I've been pushing for that myself... but we don't need to associate with ppl that don't have us as dog hunters in there best interest 100%... that's why I made my post and like yours it was my 100% OPINION... but I also know money is tight so hopefully ppl will see there is a downside to this organization... and maybe send it where it will help us the most...
