I hope most of you are familiar with the new proposal being considered by the Halifax County NC Board of Commissioners. It will severely impact the ability to hunt deer, bear, fox or coyote with dogs without having written permission to hunt on the land where dogs are released; provided further, that the total area of contiguous property for which permission to hunt with dogs shall be a minimum of 300 acres. This written proof shall include the name, address and telephone number of the property owner as well as the county tax parcel number. This puts a burden on all of us because one landowner may own multiple tracts and have to search for parcel numbers.
A violation would be punishable by $250 for first offense; $500 for a second offense and a third offense is $5,000 fine plus confiscation of all firearms.

I hope everyone in all of the counties that allow hunting with dogs will take notice and voice your opposition. If this passes in Halifax county it will only be a short time till these regulations spread like the plague.

Currently by state law it is unlawful to hunt with or without dogs on the land of another without written permission. With this in mind we don't need additional laws to regulate trespassing. So the only purpose of the new regulations are to further limit our ability to hunt. This will help the Wildlife Commission to soon completely outlaw hunting with dogs or to place a larger acreage restriction in the future.

I also wonder why they didn't include coon hunters, rabbit hunters and bird hunters in this new proposed regulation. I believe it to be because of the swath of anxiety it would cause from those hunters.

It is still against current law to hunt or fish on even as little as one acre without written permission. Maybe we shouldn't discriminate against dog hunters and require every hunter to abide by the tax parcel number requirement. Then all the tree huggers would flood the courthouse with complaints. I'll bet the county commissioners took that in consideration when they proposed this regulation.

this started. And there is also another bunch on the east side of 95 that got there name put in as well because they want to do
things there way, Heck with everbody else......(that is what I was told the other day)

If you think this has a chance of passing my advice would be to talk with EVERY DOG CLUB IN THE COUNTY and
make sure the meetings are full of your clubs people ( not 25 people) 200

Also mail and call the county commissoners with hundreds of calls and hundreds of letters. Other counties have beat this stuff back in recent years. but it has to be done mostly by county residents as you guys are voters and can put them
outof office. It will take big turnouts and alot of calls and letters and e mails. But it can be done if enough of you guys will do the work

All of this mess has gotten started from a farmer that lives in the white oak area by the name of Wayne Edwards. He stated that he would stop dog hunting in Halifax county.So we as hunters need to come together as one and pull together. Yeah its a bunch of small groups that making it bad for everyone. The sad thing about it the local law (sheriff) knows who they are and the game warden knows who they are also. They have bein trying to catch them for a period of time. Come on guys and girls let's pull together and get this mess stopped. Pointing fingers and talking junk not going solve anything at this moment..
