Last Three Up Dates On HB..........NC GUYS READ PLEASE

HB#640 is sitting in the Senate Rules Committee while members of the Republican Caucus decide what to do with this issue. It is time to call your Senator & ask him/her to vote NO to Sunday hunting.

We are building momentum every day. The buzz in the General Assembly this week is Sunday hunting. Senators are receiving more & more emails and calls against Sunday hunting.

Bill sponsor Rep. Jimmy Dixon waylaid some Sunday hunting opponents today as they visited Senators. He tried, again, to dissuade them from opposing Sunday hunting. We are told he said, "I don't care if I get elected again. I have the power, I have the votes, and I intend to get this bill passed." Some of the Sunday hunting opponents were from his district, but he ignored their concerns.

Very few Senators are so hard headed. Most Senators are deeply interested in what their constituents think, and want to hear from you. Many of them recognize this is a divisive issue, and seem undecided.

Below find the list of all 50 Senators, with districts and email addresses. If these links don't work, copy the email address into your individual email. Please do NOT forward this email to legislators.

Please use as your subject line: "Vote NO -- Sunday Hunting Bill H640". Be brief and polite as you ask the Senator to vote NO.

Remember to include your name and address to demonstrate you are a NC resident. Take special care to contact YOUR OWN SENATOR. Also, contact all Senators you know personally. The list of all 50 Senators is below. You may call any legislator by calling (919)733-4111 and asking for that legislator. For more detailed information, including the name of your own Senator, please visit the web site of the NC General Assembly: www.ncleg.net.

Forward this email to other North Carolinians who oppose Sunday gun hunting. The time you spend now will help to preserve our hunting heritage. We want all hunters, and particularly dog hunters, to continue to have the opportunity to hunt. We do not need more enemies, which will happen if the 95% of North Carolinians who do not hunt hear gun fire on Sunday. Further, we do not want hunting commercialized and the price of hunting pushed so high that ordinary people can no longer afford to hunt.

Again, thank you for working to protect and preserve hunting and specifically, dog hunting. Call us if you have questions. Best regards, Joe & Henri

his Week: NC Senators need to hear Sunday hunting is a bad idea

A few NC dog hunters have asked why the NC Sporting Dog Association opposes Sunday hunting. A Virginia Congressman has sent a warning to dog hunters that you should hear. There are national trends that can hurt dog hunting in NC. We must protect our sport in NC.

US Congressman Rob Whittman (R- VA 1st District) stated, without prompting or hesitation, “every state that has adopted Sunday Hunting in the last decade or two has severely curtailed or eliminated hunting with dogs.”

Congressman Whittman said that commercial hunting was the root cause! He observed that where there had been some resistance, as in Alabama, “the strategy has been to require large amounts of land in contagious blocks as a requirement to allow the use of dogs.” Further demonstrating a thorough knowledge of the subject, he said once the use of dogs was curtailed and commercial hunt legalized, that the rising cost of leasing land drove off all but the wealthy hunters.

Congressman Whittman’s remarks were made to a Virginia official at the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies 2015 North American Wildlife & Natural Resources Conference in Omaha, Nebraska in March.

The VA Hunting Dog Alliance steadfastly opposed commercial hunting because of its impact on both the non-dog hunter and dog hunter alike. In 2013, then VaHDA Chairman Jim Hackett was attacked on the internet by dog and non-dog hunters for making the same observations as Congressman Whittman. As you may have heard, VA legalized Sunday gun hunting last year.

Ask the average Texan what it costs to be able to hunt private land in that state! States that have legalized Sunday hunting set the stage for commercial hunting and dramatic losses of land for dog hunting!

Virginia Congressman Rob Whittman has been an active member of the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus (CSC) since his election to Congress in 2007. He served as Vice-Chair in the 113th Congress, and is currently serving as CSC Co-Chair. Rob is known to be a friend to Virginia dog hunters. His statements should be a wakeup call to ALL dog hunters.

Please take time to call and email Senators to ask them to say NO to Sunday hunting. Click here for list of Senators. Please help us protect dog hunting in North Carolina. Henri & Joe McClees

Here's a link to the list of senators by county. A few counties have more than one senator. If that's the case for where you live, you can click on the senator's name and a map of their district comes up, so you can see if that's your senator. If it isn't, you can click on the other names listed for your county to find who is yours. Each senator has his or her own page with all their contact info.

I just got off the phone with my senator's office. The receptionist took my name and comment. She was very nice and it only took a couple of minutes. If any of you are in Sen. Phil Berger's district and want to call, his receptionist's name is Barbara and she's super friendly.

I've emailed my senator, I was also informed that the Legislators from the Charlotte and Raleigh areas have exempted themselves from Sunday hunting, while they're the biggest supporters. If you CARE you need to contact your Senator.

Re: Last Three Up Dates On HB..........NC GUYS READ PLEASE

I contacted my senators as well for the county I live in and the ones I hunt in. I shared this with the sporting dog assoc. as well, but be careful and insure you know what you are talking about when you talk with them. I think this is and underhanded attempt by commercial hunters to get Sunday approved so they can make more money. This bill is not about heritage! If it were about heritage, most would be in church on Sunday. Anyway, what has happened behind the scenes is the NCWRC has turned over deer farming to the department of agriculture so it is not in the fight and it is a conflict of interest. Therefore commercial hunting can be controlled because it is an industry. They want Sundays so they can make money 7 days a week. This bill don't have anything to do with John Doe being able to hunt an extra day, it is all about money hungry hunters and this industry will take its toll on organized hunting clubs (dog and still hunting) because they are going to raise the lease on your land so you can't afford it. So yes, please call your Senator and tell them to OPPOSE Sunday hunting because it will kill your heritage!
