What is the smallest hound or beagle you all have seen that could contribute to a fox race. Just wondering if a pack of big beagles or small hounds could catch a fox and hold up more than one day.
I dont know about the next day part but I foxhunted on the outside for over 10 years and I hated and dang beagle. But life and kids changed everything and I sold out. I now have reabbit dogs. Beagles are trashy mouthy dogs. But I stumbled on some line that I like.
I can gaurantee you if I had 12-15 15" Bramlett, Indian Hills and Branko dogs I could eventually catch a gray fox or a cat with them. Might not catch him on the fly, might not catch him in 25-45 min. But they'd never miss him, and a gray fox cant take constant pressure.
Yep I agree rooster. I seen some of them black bramletts too. As good as some of them run a bunny They ought to be able to do it. The problem I see is the holding up part. Don't know how many days of a full blown fox race they could stand and like you said it wouldn't be no 45min deal, but about 15 to 20 of them things with blood in their eyes would ball me up and get me sucking down the marlboros. Pressure kills.
I can promise you this 16" sunk her teeth in more game than most (inside and out), and was asked not to come back to some pens. You knew she and her pups were there - atleast for day 1.
No sir...she was actually two 1/2's bred together.
She reproduced mostly small dogs for me when I bred her...although I remember she threw a big blanket back male that grew to almost 26 inches. I let a buddy at work get him and a little Kean male mate as pups...told him I'd take the Kean one back if they didn't work out. The big one wasn't half the dog the little 18" one made. Last I heard they were breeding to the little one...lol.
Hank I got a Lil black gyp off of Mid Night Rider I bought from a guy. She is black and tan probably a May or June. Was wondering what her bottom side is and actually how old she is. Deer hunted her all year and she making a pretty lil good dog. Just wanting some info on her.
I had 2 litters in May 2013.... One off Runaway (a Gone Famous gyp) and one off Lacey (a Woodchopper gyp).
Who did you get her from, might narrow it down.
I got a little black and tan that is over 3 years old off of Rat. Just about her size.I wish I had more off her. Placed him in the derby at the SC State and plenty of speed and drives. Money could not buy him from me as he is THE BEST DEER HOUND I OWN and trust me I got some that caught several this year. Long live the RAT!!!!!!!!
Sticky was a medium sized Sticker gyp. Rider's probably 24 inches and you sometimes gets some smaller kean gyps off him. Might go back to his daddy...Little Man (8ball).
