    Fellow Hunters-Please Read-Need suggestions

Week before last the North Carolina State completed a very successful 2014 hunt at Low Country, thanks to you, the hunters. President Craig Nobles, Secretary/Treasurer Robin Barefoot and facility owner Richard Evans all did an awesome job and deserve to be recognized for their efforts.

One issue that Craig and Richard had to deal with on Wednesday involved the reserving of kennels. There were some folks who spread their hounds out in the public kennels to reserve kennels for their buddies and it made it seem like there weren't enough kennels at the pen when there were actually plenty.

As President of the 2015 All American, I would like to plan ahead for any potential issues involving this situation and I would like your suggestions to keep this from happening in February.

As some of you may remember, several years ago we had 1031 hounds entered and things seemed to work out in terms of kennel space. Since then, there have been quite a few private kennels built. Now I don't look for that many hounds at any field trial ever again but it did happen that year.

As you can probably imagine, we can not allow the public kennels to be pad-locked. These will be cut off if there are any in place when we get down there. Also, it really isn't a good idea to spread out several hounds to reserve kennels for your buddy with 1 hound to a kennel. If your buddy is coming, why not bring his hounds with you?

Now I understand that someone could come and bring 1 hound to run and we welcome them. This person deserves kennel space as does a person who brings several hounds and we certainly intend to accommodate them.

If a person is coming and intends to bring pups to sell or intends to buy pups while at the hunt, why not bring a 10x10 portable kennel with you so that the kennel space is reserved for the hounds that are parti****ting in the hunt? Same for stud hounds or other hounds that may be brought that won't be entered in the event.

I know that the All American is 4 months away. However, I like to plan ahead for any possible issues that will arise and I welcome your suggestions.

OK BILL ILL TAKE A STAB AT IT ,YOU FIRST LOCK KENNEL GATES UNTIL A CERTAIN TIME THAT YOU START YOUR DRAW , ALL THE PUBLIC KENNELS ARE TO BE NUMBERED ,WHEN PEOPLE DRAW THEIR NUMBERS YOU ASSIGN THEM A KENNEL NUMBER WITH A CERTAIN AMOUNT IN EACH KENNEL THEN YOU HAVE A BOD MEMBER PRESENT TO ESCORT THEM TO IT ,NEXT ALL THE PRIVATE KENNEL OWNERS THAT ARE PRESENT GET TO USE THEIR KENNELS AS LONG AS THEY PUT THE REQUIRED NUMBER OF HOUNDS IN EACH KENNEL ,IF YOU STILL HAVE DOGS ALL THE PRIVATE KENNELS THAT ARE NOT USED WILL BE USED BY THE REMAINING ENTRIES JUST AS THE PUBLIC KENNELS WERE USED BY ASSIGNMENT ,ALL TRADE DOGS ARE TO BE KEPT ELSE WHERE ,NO PETS ALLOWED,MAKE SURE TO HAVE A GOOD SET OF BOLT CUTTERS AND SOME HELP AROUND TO BREAK UP THE FIGHTS --GOOD LUCK-DAVID BAILEY

One way is to simply have someone assign kennels based on the number of hounds that they bring. It does require that a director from the organization
other than the secretary be present and actually work. Hunters can be given their choice when they arrive as long as the kennels are unoccupied. This worked extremely well during the high volume years of the South Carolina State. Richard has always maintained that private kennels that were not used
during a hunt were to be opened for the public if they were needed.
In that regard I really hope you will need space for 1031 hounds this year.
