NO PUPPY MILL LANGUAGE in Budget Bill,,,GOOD NEWS

Legislature ending with NO “Puppy Mill Bill”, thanks to NC Senate!

The NC General Assembly is winding down. The Senate voted at 12:45 am on Friday, 8/1/14 to approve the Conference Committee Report (compromise version) of the Budget. There is NO “puppy mill” language in it!

The House of Representatives will vote on this identical Conference Committee Report of the Budget at a more civilized hour on Friday morning, 8/1/14 and again on Saturday, 8/2/14. Everyone hopes they will adjourn (go home) soon thereafter!

Dog hunters and dog breeders owe this victory against the animal rights radicals to the faithfulness of President Pro Tem Sen. Phil Berger phil.berger@ncleg.net office 919-733-5708. Please thank him with a call or email!

PETA and HSUS have pressured Senator Phil Berger with hundreds of calls and emails. He remains calm and courteous, as always. The man is unflappable. Please call or email him and simply say, “THANK YOU for helping dog hunters in North Carolina. We appreciate you.” After hearing so much criticism and abuse, it would be nice for him to hear a few kind words from people he has truly helped and protected.

Governor Pat McCrory can sign the Budget Bill or veto it. What will he do? The Governor has given mixed signals. He pushed hard for the “Puppy Mill Bill” and demanded it be included in the Budget. The House caved in, but the Senate removed it and kept it out, thanks to strong leadership in the Senate. This is one of his specific complaints, among many, about the Budget. We will see what Gov. McCrory does with his veto stamp.

The NC Wildlife Resources Commission meets on Thursday, 8/28/14 in Raleigh, with various committees meeting on Wednesday, 8/27/14. Joe & Henri will monitor these meetings on behalf of dog hunters.
