If it is a Master's or National's affiliated hunt.....it is ILLEGAL to run field trial "jackets"!
If NOT an affiliated hunt...anything goes...meaning the rules are set by those putting on the hunt!
The jackets are the best thing that has come along for those that do one-day speed & drive hunts, puppy hunts, fund raisers, etc. Folks do not have to spend so much time putting on & taking off numbers. A huge time-saver!
But, it leaves the door open for improper or illegal activities to occur!
That situation, as in anything, is up to the integrity & honesty of the hunter! Most are fine sportsmen, but as in anything, a few will do whatever to try & win!
Malcolm, the suggestion of no number under the field trial jacket would certainly go a long way to solving the problem, but then the guy that loses the jacket off his hound is going to be upset. Unfortunately,you will never please everyone.....that's reality!!
Go to the trial, have fun, hope there's good running, & good food, & then placing a hound becomes a PLUS!!
