Re: scoring your dog

Yeah I agree with what Mike said on the scoring NA rules and endurance, but not every hound and simply put there are less Hounds that can stay on track unless its a Coyote staying 50 - 100 feet in front of the pack. There are many things to look at on how well a hound holds the track to get scored. A hound running from race to race, dropping the track every time the game turns and just keep running till there at the next race cut in front get scored and repeat. The claim of fastest dog speed is the best thing and 1-5 s /d is all that matters, that to me makes me question how well hunters look at the Hounds.
Perfect example a hunt I judged, one hound came in the area I was judging running a grey fox step for step hot on its heals, the fox even tried to go up a tree but the hound was on it to tight. Couple Hounds packed in but could not stay with it, it being the fox and Hound. I scored 10 crossings on packs running coyotes and the hound after the fox several times but The hound lost a lot of time and score being the best hound and did not win or get top 5 placed decent but in my book that was by far the best hound I saw that day. IMO that's how I see it . The stacking judges a small pen not going to make much different outcome it's the game and Hounds. In a big pen I think to often to many judges run to the biggest pack running to often,
I think more time and effort should be getting the packs running that are on the right track and closer to the true running ability of the Hounds. 50 Hounds in one pack the front Hounds are getting cut over and over and the truth is how often are there going to be that many hounds on a piece of game outside, 10-15 ?20 Hounds in packs running around score the hounds running that is closer to the real deal. IMO
Numbers don't always show you what really is going on while running a hunt. I think that was the thought when the rules were written to start with.
