Re: sick/hurt dog

If she's gone back to eating she will probably be OK. Just watch her this summer, after a person or an animal has had heat exhaustion they are more likely to be affected by the heat again more than someone who hasn't. In the hot summertime I don't turn my hounds loose until it is under 80 degrees at night, and the 70's are really to hot but they seem to be able to handle it, but if its in the 80's or more, you are very likely to have hounds suffer from the heat. Hounds are like people, some can take the heat better than others. A lot of it has to do with their diet also. The better dog foods are "balanced" that is they have all the ingredients the dogs need, not just fat and protein, this is just a portion of the necessary nutrition, you need to make sure it is a completely balanced food and therefore the hounds get the proper amt of all of the vitamins and minerals they need including sodium which is very necessary to a hound in the summertime because like people, they are depleting their supply of sodium which is very important to fluid retention and this must be resupplied. If you are just feeding chickens or straight meat(like many do) they won't get the proper amt of sodium and other essentials that they will get through a "completely balanced feed". Also high fat and high protein is hard on a hound during the summer and in the winter they need it but in the summer they can get too much.
