FINLAND

Well it's good to have studio versions of a country's NF songs available to listen to this early in the proceedings. I surprised myself by actually liking a few of this year's efforts, though the Finns promised "no rock" this time. They lied! Standout for me is 'Lose Control' by Waldo's People. It has a chorus reminiscent of 'Wouldn't it be nice?' by Nik Kershaw which is in its favour. Unfortunately this genre of part rap/part singing doesn't do terribly well at Eurovision. Other passable tracks are 'Planeetta' by Remu (hints of the lovely Roger Pontare, I felt); Dr Dr by Sani & Kwan's '10,000 Light years'. Jari Sillanpaa has made an ill-advised return with some forgettable rubbish. Quit whilst you're behind, Jari. Much to my dismay a lot of the 'fans' are raving over a piece of meretricious rock rubbish by Passionworks which I hate with a vengeance. A shoo-in to win then, I suppose.
