I am currently researching all those named on my local War Memorial and, included within them, is Sapper Douglas Arthur Batchelor (14345461) of the 2nd Field Company Royal Engineers. He died on the 6th May 1944 and is commemorated on the Rangoon Memorial.
I simply wondered if anyone on this site might have any Company War Diaries or Regimental Histories and could tell me where the 2nd Field Coy. were that day and what they were doing ?
I have been told that he died when the Dakota he was flying in crashed in the jungle - but I have no proof of this.
