Up-and-Coming R&B Sensation JL Cotter

JL Cotter
Singer/Songwriter

JL Cotter, age 23, was already bred for the music industry from an early age. His grandfather, James Reese Europe, was the first African-American Jazz artist to play at Carneigie Hall. His father, Robert Cotter, played with Nile Rogers and the late Bernard Edwards, of the Big Apple Band, later known as Chic was the lead singer and helped to sculpt what would be a new talent. JL elegantly unites the classic soul of yesterday with hip-hop and R&B. JL incorporates his influences of past and present, as well as what he discovered at a young age, with his personal situations and original ideas of love. He perfects his craft by writing and singing most of his own music which brings mind blowing, home hitting songs of this century. He first started recording at the age of 15 and by then he knew his love for music was his future. JL’s passion and drive is to be the best and spends an extensive amount of his time in the studio. His sound is fresh and new mixed with the understanding of how music is created and is reflected in his 30 recordings to date. He has worked with major talent in production like, Troy Oliver’s “Chocolate Factory” producer Reggie Hamlet, House of Tre and Swizz Beats, just to name a few. JL collaborates with great writers like Andre Deyo, “Jenny From the Block”, “I’m Glad” (J.Lo), and “Cheddar Bring” (Ginuwine), as well as Teron Beal “Heaven Can’t Wait” (Michael Jackson), and “Why You Gotta Look So Good?” (Mya). Because of his steadfast dedication and drive he landed a performance on BET’s hit afternoon show 106 & Park. JL has provided the vocals for “A Shining Star” as a tribute to DJ Threat. He is featured on the remix of “Do Re Me” with LL Cool J, Scarface and J Records recording artist and Def Squad CEO Eric Sermon. JL has also provided background vocals for “Lil G” better known as the lead vocalist in the hit group Silk, during a performance at BB King’s in NYC. He has performed at Village Underground and at Soul Café where he received a standing ovation for his rendition of Maxwell’s “A Woman’s Worth”. Be on the look out for R& B’s next shining star.
