TTHG has now officially extended their area of interests to cover a wider area !

Thorpe Thewles History Group has extended its area of interest to include Great Stainton, Bishopton, Carlton, Redmarshall, Whitton, Stillington and Wolviston as well as its original primary areas of focus, i.e. Grindon, Wynyard and Thorpe Thewles. But why you may ask? Well firstly it reflects the current and historical relationship between the local parishes and secondly it fills in the gaps not covered between our neighbouring history groups of Newton Aycliffe, Long Newton, Norton and Sedgefield.
This means that we can extend our coverage of historical records pre 1912 concentrating on the transcription of church records of baptisms, marriages and burials and the census. We are also interested in the historical buildings in the villages, such as the mills and the manor houses.
Of course, these records and old buildings really come to life when we can add stories and pictures about the people in the villages.

Do you have any stories, photographs or memories that you are willing to share with us?

Perhaps you have an interest in history and may wish to join us either to do some research (local history or family history) or just to enjoy our newsletters.

Interested? Then you may wish to visit our website or perhaps attend an open monthly meeting held the first Friday from 7p.m. in Grindon Parish Hall.

We look forward to hearing from you !
