Painted Advertising Sign on the north end wall of Vane Cottages, Thorpe.

Does anyone know what the large painted advertising sign says which is on the north end wall of Vane Cottages (i.e. the two cottages north of the Vane Arms pub)? The sign is still there but is now very faded and difficult to see given that there is limited access between the north end of the old cottages and the south facing outer wall of the new vicarage built in the 1980s.

Thanks

Re: Painted Advertising Sign on the north end wall of Vane Cottages, Thorpe.

Hi Mark

We have asked around some of the older residents about the sign and as far as we can tell the sign painted on a maroon background reads "VAUX'S FINE ALES & STOUT."

It is difficult to see down the small gap between the cottages and the vicarage but the words VAUX'S at the top and STOUT at the bottom seem to bear this out.

We hope this helps.

Good luck on your research.
