Helping a puppy deal with separation anxiety

My 10-week-old Cavachon can’t handle being alone for even a few minutes. He whines, scratches the door, and refuses to eat when I leave. I work from home, but sometimes I have to go out. I’ve tried toys and treats, but nothing works. I feel so guilty every time I leave the apartment.

Been there, done that! When I first brought home my mini Goldendoodle, I thought she’d never stop crying when I left. What really helped was gradually extending my absence — literally starting with 5 minutes, then 15, then 30. Also, I left one of my worn shirts in her bed so she could smell me. I got a few good pointers from https://loveofpuppies.com/available-puppies/, especially about breeds that handle alone time better. You’re not doing anything wrong — it just takes patience and consistency.

Aw, poor pup! It’s sweet how attached they get. I’ve heard white noise or soft music can also help them stay calm when you’re gone.
