Is putting plant pots in a bucket of water damaging

I have had an idea of puting my plant pots into a bucket of water to help water whenever i am not able too e.g holidays. Would this be bad for them and if so why?

Re: Is putting plant pots in a bucket of water damaging

Yes and no! In the end, if you put plants in water for too long they will drown. But they can stand it for a while.

I will be going on hols for a week soon and what I normally do is place the plants in a shallow tray (in the shade) with about 3/4 in / 2cm of water in it. That way, when I return the tray will probably be empty of water but the potted plants will still be moist.

Be careful though to place the tray / plants somewhere where not too much rainwater can reach. If it rains for the entire week you could end up with the plants standing in water for the entire week.
