Potato flowers

Why do potato plants produce flowers?

Re: Potato flowers

Flowers eventually turn into seeds and that's how potatoes can be grown naturally (don't bother trying though, it's difficult). The flowers look good, but some believe in nipping them off so that all the plant's energy goes into producing big fat potatoes.

Can a potato plant produce potatos if it does not flower ?

Yes!

What might be confusing you is yes flowers will produce seeds which can be propagated to produce potentially a new variety of potato.

I know we generally refer to the potato we sow to produce potatoes as 'seed potatoes' but in fact they are tubers.

'tubers'(potatoes} are swellings on the root system a wholly different thing.
