Is this a good idea

I have filled empty drinks bottles with water and put them into the soil upside down. This is both in grow bags and in the soil in the greenhouse. My theory is that when the soil is needing water it will absorb the water from the bottle. When the soil is fine no water should be taken in. Is there anything wrong with doing this and will it be good enough for the plants?

Re: Is this a good idea

I haven't tried that, I would have thought that the water would fall out of the bottle too easily.

Re: Re: Is this a good idea

Certainly in the grow bags if the soil feels moist the water does not drain out of the bottle. The best bottles are the 500ml small rimmed, long neck bottles. It seems to work fine.

i never tried it but i saw on tv a glass blown bottle
that u put water into and when the plant soil is dry
it gives off oxygen in this bottle and it dispenses water. its good for up to 2 weeks so u dont have to
water the plants.
