Tiny black flies

I seem to have been plauged by tiny black flies on my house plants recently and have been told that they breed in the soil. Although thay are harmless to the plant they certainly have made their presence felt in the house. Having got rid of the infected pots I'm concerned they might start breeding in the garden planters and/or greenhouse. Any advice or info appreciated!

Re: Tiny black flies

I have read Peter Seabrook in the sun column on a saturday that he says to water your plants with some liquid derris to get rid of the black flies.I am having the same problem at the moment with my Strelitzias so I am going to try this myself.I hope this is o.k.

Re: Tiny black flies

Thanks for your reply...I was beginning to think I was the only person that had suffered this! Having emptied all the offending pots I seem to have got rid of the problem but I might take your advice if it happens again.
