Aubergine

I've grown aubergines in a greenhouse the past 2 years. I get decent sized plants but very few fruit to eat! Shud I be pinching out side shoots to make the plant less bushy ??? Any idea about the lack of fruit?

Re: Aubergine

I have the same problem Richard. I think they do benefit from full light and being in a greenhouse. I would not pinch out side shoots because you tend to get the flowers at the confluence these stems.

Re: Aubergine

Richard,
sounds like a problem with pollination in a dry glasshouse environment. Misting your plants before they flower will help pollination and also help to control Red Spider mite which can destroy your plants.

If you're not already using a liquid feed, i would start feeding using Tomato food every 2 weeks when the fruits are setting.

Some people do pinch out the growing point as the season progresses. I think it depends on the variety grown. I'm sure the dwarf varieties don't need pinching

Good luck with this years crop
