I had a similar problem last year. I dug up and disposed of all the older plants in the centre and just kept the runners around the outside of the plot - as you can be sure these will be the newest plants.

Remake your rows and replant the new runners in them. The plants should be fine if kept watered well at this time of year. Don't feed them until the flowers form, this will ensure the roots get established.
