Obviously I cant be certain but it could be Coral spot.

Hi there Jan. Acers are notorious for getting coral spot- even though it can be a whitish spot to begin with. Just on the off chance, it isn't wooly aphid. I've seen them this year in huge numbers surrounding stems and they can look like a fungus. If you rub it will come off quite easily and squeeze it between your fingers it'll squish.
