In ancient Judaic religion, there is a strong beleif in the Cabballa, or Tree of life. The tree of life is significant in that the whole of creation was conceived and brought into material being through the Tree.
Now, Kether is the top of the tree, the most holy of holies, that which is closest to and the home of the Universal Cosmic Intelligence. Malkuth on the other hand, is Earth, the place where all thought from God becomes material.
Also, when he sings of "the European Canon is here", he's saying the "Canon", or the significant religious figure, from Europe is "here" A Canon is like a bishop in the Catholic church, the Canon in Judaic religion. Bowie studies ancient judaic religion for years.
On the Low album he sings "don't look, on the carpet. I drew something awful on it". He's talking again about the Tree of Life. On the Low reissue, that's what he's drawing on the floor on the back cover.
