My dear Francisco what you are saying, while not entirely lies, is grossly exaggerated. I was in Northern Mozambique at the time Samora M. Machel was president. True, it was then a one-party state with authoritarian policies. But Northern Mozambique was by no means the vast concentration camp you describe. Schools and health services were vastly extended to remote areas; literacy courses for adults were held everywhere.
Yes, they did jail people and deportated many of them to the North at one time. I think they have since acknowledged this was a big mistake. Remember, this took place at the time of a civil war against RENAMO. RENAMO was responsible for mass massacres which you don't seem to want to mention.
In the meantime, the Mozambique government to which Pascoal Mocumbi was a member signed peace with RENAMO. Although RENAMO and its leader Dhlakama were once labeled as "bandidos armados" by FRELIMO - rightly so in my opinion - FRELIMO agreed that RENAMO could become a legally recognized opposition party. Mozambique has now far better democratic conditions than most other African countries. RENAMO has a strong constituency, with many seats in the National Assembly and Mayors of several important towns.
Let's try to consider things in perspective, before we destroy a good candidate from the Third World.
