I am reserching Margaret McLean (1826-1873) and have "hit a brick wall". Any assistance would be appreciated. Details I have are as follows.




1. Alexander McGINTY. Born About 1825 in Glasgow, Scotland. Died 23 Jun 1907 in "In or about", Armstrongs Diggings, Ararat, Victoria. Buried 26 Jun 1907 in Great Western, Victoria. Occupation: Miner, Labourer. Ref Number d. 890.




The medical examination conducted on his death noted that Alexander had a tattoo on his right forearm showing an anchor, a flag and a female figure.




He was buried at Great Western and the witness to the burial was a Charles F Best.




It appears he married Margaret McLEAN, 1853 in Sandhurst, Victoria. She appears to have been born in 1826 in Liverpool, England. Margaret died at age 47 of Hepatitis on 13 Jun 1873 in Ararat Hospital, Victoria and was buried in Great Western, Victoria. Ref Number d. 3045.




Her death certificate stated the doctor was William Sharp, she had Hepatitis for several years prior to her death and that she was a resident of Victoria for 24 years. It also stated that she married at age 27 at Sandhurst. Her children are listed as Charlotte, aged 17, Alexander aged 15, Neile aged 12. Therefore she would have arrived in Victoria around 1849 and the marriage date would be circa 1853.




Alexander's birth certificate states "six living", and that the marriage was in Hobart in 1943 but this information was provided by G. Morgan, the local newsagent so I suspect its accuracy.




Margaret's maiden name is unclear because:


1. On Alexander's (185 birth certificate it is stated as McLean.


2. On Neil's first marriage certificate it is stated to be Reilly.


3. On Neils death certificate it is stated to be Poole.


4. On Charlotte's marriage certificate it is stated to be McLean




Medical: Died at Ararat Hospital of Hepatitis, doctor was William Sharp and death certificate stated she had Hepatitis for several years.




They had the following children:




2. Charlotte McGINTY. Born About 1856 in Fiery Creek, Beaufort, Victoria. Died 1888 in Prince Alfred Hospital, Melbourne, Victoria. Ref Number m. 2747.
