Re: whats hunters opinion using hellums breed for deer hunting

The ones I've had were "deer heathens"! and could run day after day after day, and never get tired!
Sold some to a couple of guys & they said they were the best they ever owned!
Don't think you'd regret using them! and they have "brains" too!

Re: whats hunters opinion using hellums breed for deer hunting

If you like to look hounds all night there great.Long winded and hard headed.

Re: whats hunters opinion using hellums breed for deer hunting

A hunting buddy of mine has a whole pack of hellums bred dogs. They will flat out run one too. I'd invest in some shock collars and train them to stop at a crossing though as they will run him out of the county before they think of stopping. They are definitely "deer heathens"

    SORRY JABBER JAW
    HOPE THIS HELPS

    ALLAN BISHOP?????

Mr.Bishop, how is it you've got to be pulled out some peoples throat when they don't put a full name up hear like p.jacobs did along with his ph.# but somebody can come up hear with say " joe"-"cialis dad" and thats not a problem for you? is it because "you" know them and that's good enough?any how was just wondering. have a good day.

    Re: ALLAN BISHOP?????

    Mr Potter,
First I was not down Patrick's throat! And I think he realizes this, he just was not totally aware of the name requirement. There are others that are learning about name usage as well!
Second..because of what has been happening elsewhere, prompted better enforcement if you will of what has been a requirement all along on SpeedDogs! The "name" thing is posted on the FRONT PAGE for all to see.
Third..I probably have been a bit lax in asking everyone to use their name, some have been posting on here for years and everyone knows their name, not an excuse, but a fact. If you notice, they have also started posting their names as well. Your name is not one that I recognize or see on here very often!
Fourth..This IS a privately owned site and is not a site where one can just post whatever they choose to.
Otherwords...it is not exactly a democracy...my choice of words.
Fifth....This site is for the enjoyment and use of foxhunters,field-trialers, and hound hunters; and gets an extensive amount of use, by thousands of people, as evidenced by the number of "hits" recorded!
So most that use it must be pretty happy with it.
There is a great exchange of information about hounds, pups, hunts, trials, benefit hunts, and on an on!
Sixth..I hope you use and enjoy SpeedDogs, but if you do not enjoy the site, there are other sites you could visit. I'm not trying to be a smart-alec, but those that use the site will adhere to the rules as best we can enforce them. Nothing is perfect, but we try pretty hard, whether you agree or not!!
And lastly...if there is something you do not agree with or like, want to discuss hounds or whatever, feel free to call me on my cell phone

PS: Unfortunately, if the rules are not followed, the "IP" address will be banned form the site. And they can be tracked and identified as well!

Re: whats hunters opinion using hellums breed for deer hunting

i have a couple satilites , the only problem is you better not want to go home early . tough and plenty of hours . these are hellums bread top and bottom .

Re: whats hunters opinion using hellums breed for deer hunting

may be allright if you dont want to run him very fast

Re: whats hunters opinion using hellums breed for deer hunting

They are tough in a way in the deer woods that few other lines shown me. You better train them to the tone button in a none hunting situation early on. You best turn loose early I have one here that chews through all brands of wire and goes through electric wire chews or climbs out.Several people owned but got fed up with his acts of Houdini He will run for days but will come home no matter how far he goes. I got him from a fellow as he had destroyed his pens escaping. I had a special cage built out of live stock panels that cant be chewed through . i am 58 cant run like i use too have youngsters that are fast helps if they are not tone broke . The invention of the ALPHA SHOCK TONE TRACK IN ONE HELPS. The DRIVE TRACK is like a huge GPS that shows roads fields logging roads and has birds eyes helps. You can't own Hellums on a small hunting club so you better have cooperative adjoing hunt clubs or assess to go catch them. Yeah they are high Octane can he hard long days but when you take off 2 weeks to hunt every day the other strains just cant take it. I have had hounds for almost 50 years and they proven to me they are beyond tough almost like they were let out hell. The name HELLUMS fits their desire freak nature.I wouldnt trade my lunatic Houdini for nothing. We got six 6 Month old Hellums pups that can already track trial and jump a deer and run him to the next county and will run all day and you got get them out the woods late in the day. No other line has shown me this I am very hard to please and wont own or breed to a soft dog that is burnt out in 4 0r 5 hours of hard running. Hellums are hard to find as few people like white dogs but they show up better at night crossing a road less likely to get ran over.I hope people dont over look this line. Dogs often that are trained to run in pens sometimes struggle in ranging out to find game and trailing when game is scarce in the wild. Hellums are tough enough that the desire to hunt is there that will put game on its feet somewhere. They are like a Timex watch they can take a lick and keep on ticking. These dogs are natural borne anabolic dont need any help.

Re: whats hunters opinion using hellums breed for deer hunting

I owned some off of white cat Hellums and they were deer machines, and no matter how long or far they would go they would be back every night, hunting machines that would find game , I bred them to beagles, then to my beagle/gsp and they have speed, nose hunt and are good for small tracks, the gsp makes them easy to handle, average height is 20”, they have chop and squealing mouth’s. This formula works well for me.
