We have had trouble twice in the past 8 years. Our most recent was in July of this year. The problem we had wasn't Tick Fever but it was caused by a tick bite. The Vet has a blood test that can detect this disease but it costs around $90.00 just for the test. It is a disease called Eurlickia and it is caused by a tick bite. It causes the red blood cells to burst and the dog will get anemic and can kill the dog. It causes a dog to have the same symptoms as eating rat poison. The dog will get to feeling so bad that it isn't able to hunt. The treatment with dioxicycline for 21 days will cure this disease. Dioxycycline is a fairly reasonable priced drug and you will start seeing improvement in 2-3 days but if you do not give the medicine for the full 21 days it will come back with a vengence.
