Have seen good luck with bluetick and beagle crosses. Good nose, bay up and good mouths. I have always wanted to find a smaller built full blooded black and tan female that runs good and cross with a beagle male. I don't think speed is the answer, steady loud pursuit that doesn't miss much and handles water will put on the dog box. The only thing that is negative about full beagle is voices don't carry as well.
Thats exactly what I'm thinking too, would love to find a good black and tan female to breed to, love the sound of the big hounds, and have that beagle in them to keep them running and packing good. Anybody tried any plott mixes?
Can't go wrong with that treeing walker cross. Had some hellacious dogs off that cross. Best dog I have rite now came from a beagle treeing walker cross that I then crossed with a bluetick. I'm pretty sure there was some plott in the family tree too, guess he's really a sooner. lol
Hey guys....this is the list mentioned sooo far to mix with a beagle. Plotts, Grey Hounds, Redticks, Bluetics, Treeing Walkers, English Hounds, Black and Tan Hounds & fox walkers. I may have left something out, but I thought there was more. So, which is the best to cross to?
John, I like the straight rabbit size beagle, not a walkie talkie, but gundog beagles. Handle good, take brairs well, pack up on one with a small feed bill and less gas in truck. The only thing I wish I could improve is a louder mouth. On real windy days, it is tuff to hear them. I always thought about crossing a straight black and tan female with a rabbit size black back beagle for more mouth. Raised a litter off a female beagle and a half beagle, half bluetick this past year (quarter bluetick)and they are pretty darn loud. If, people would switch to better handling dogs, we wouldn't have as many issues as we have today. I had walkers for years and was ready to quit, I switched to beagles and it has been nothing but joy. Turn them out, deer killed, load them up and repeat. enough said.
Oh yeah, can't go wrong with the walker beagle cross there chris, i've checked out yall's website, yall have some pretty ones, i've got a few that look just like yalls
