Masquerade Inquiry...
Are masks mandatory for the masquerade ball?
I know some conventions make masks mandatory at balls while other balls (like Labyrinth of Jareth Masquerade) only made the -costume- mandatory and a mask optional.
I know it sounds like a strange question what with it being a masquerade, but I'm dragging one of my larger costumes with me across the country from Washington state and realized it would look really silly with a mask covering up the makeup that goes with it.

Re: Masquerade Inquiry...
What exactly is a faerie masquerade ball like? Does everyone come dressed up? I have never been to a faerie ball (nor a masquerade ball in fact, just costume parties at halloween and the ren farie).
Need help! I need to know so I can decide if I am going to the ball or not.
Thanks! Lady Morgana

I'm no one official, but I'm guessing the masquerades are going to "look" and "feel" similar to the Labyrinth of Jareth Masquerade Ball that's held every year...pictures from past years of that event are here:

A masquerade just wouldn't be a masquerade without costumes!

Re: Masquerade Inquiry...
Nothing is mandatory, as already said! There were some people in costumes, some not, and a few dressed very strangely indeed (I spotted a group of people in business suits and one elderly male cheerleader). SOme people had masks, some didn't, and those with costumes weren't necessarily the ones with masks. A few people made their whole costumes based on their masks, which was awesome indeed.
(I think that someone asked what the balls are like, so I shall answer that as well...) The balls are great. They have performers up front the whole time, and people dance in the front or talk in the back. Lots of amazing costumes, and it's worth it just for the music! The movies aren't quite as good, just because everyone talks and it's hard to find someplace to sit, but it's still well worth going.
