wheres the salmon?
hi everyone, i would like to make a comment on the declining salmon population this fall in manitoulin rivers and streams. during my last two visits thanksgiving weekend and prior weekend, i made a stop at bridal veil, to my surprise no fish in the pool. a little confused by this i headed down to mudge bay at creek outlet only to see a handful of fish. my first thought was maybe the water is too low. so off to my cottage i went. the next day i decided to go over to prov bay only to find same result, no fish. figuring maybe its to late i headed to the dam at mindemoya only to be dissapointed for the third time. the question is where are our salmon. a bad year? cormorants? no water? does any one have an answer? |

According to the DNR, all the above, this year is just a bad class. I was told we should start seeing some improvement in the future as long as we get the rain. Cormorants have for the most part left, we need rain. Also size should start improving due to the bait fish being reestablished. Hope this helps John |
