Looking for the Giant Tee Pee!

Hello my fellow Canadians! My name is Sherry and I'm planning to bring my two children back home this summer to show them their roots after spending seven very long years in Ireland. One adventure we must make is a visit to Manitoulin Island from Tobermory. The last time I made the trip my eldest daughter was 3 mos old and by the time we landed on the Island there wasn't a B&B or any room in any inn! We slept in the van and it poured rain all night long! (Thank goodness she wasn't bottle-fed!) The next morning however we made our way to a Pow Wow and had a great time! For our upcoming trip this summer, I would like to ask a few questions. First, could you give me any dates when a Pow Wow is planned? Could you recommend a hotel/motel or B & B? And most importantly, do you know the name of an Indian Art, Craft and clothing shop that is on the way to Tobermory from Toronto (somewhere, closer to Tobermory than Toronto obviously, that's why I'm asking you!) It is located in a giant Tee Pee from my recollection! I remember it was fabulous and I bought a pair of moccasins there and ten years later I'm still wearing them! Please help!

Re: Looking for the Giant Tee Pee!

These are the pow-wow locations and dates that I have so far for this summer. Check out the pow-wow page of the www.ourmanitoulin.com web site for regular updates as they are reported to me.

Aundeck Omni Kaning First Nation / June 3 - 4

Wikwemikong First Nation / June 17 - 18

Sheshegwaning First Nation / June 24 - 25

Sheguiandah First Nation / July 1 - 2

Wikwemikong 46th Annual Cultural Festival August 5 - 6 - 7 (This is the big one and the one you should hit for sure)

M'Chigeeng First Nation / September 2 - 4

As for places to stay there are too many to count but check out our "lodging" page for the listing we have right now. I hear good things about Gordon's Park (www.gordonspark.com) and it is also very close to the ferry dock for you. Also near there is The Travellers Inn Motel (www.travellersinnmotel.com)and there are many more to choose from. Let me know where you stay and your comments so I'll know better what to pass on for the next request I get.

There are more gift shops than you can count and I'm sure you won't have any problem getting some great souvenirs. Let us know when you're coming and we'll buy you an ice cream if the day is hot or a coffee if the weather is cooler! :-)
