Cormorants or not?
While I never saw the cormorant cull that the Ontario government was planning over a year ago I have seen the cormorants (and their droppings) all over the place. Does the slipperiness and odour of our shoreline justify wiping out hundred or thousands of birds that are just living their natural lives? Are they really wiping out all the game fish with their healthy appetites? Nuisance or nature⦠what say you? |

From what I've read and understand, they are eating all the fish, faster than they can reproduce. I could be wrong though....as I don't live on the island (I only wish I do.). |

I have a place on an inland lake on Manitoulin Island. There has been a major swing in our fishing due to the birds. I have been there every year for the last 22 years. We could limit out on perch in a couple hours any time of the day. Bass anywhere on the lake. Now no perch, if you are lucky then its a size issue. Bass you really need to know where to go. I have seen the birds hunt. They can clean out a cove before you know it. Wolves with wings, hunting in packs. No question in my mind they have effected all the fishing in the island. |
