Rainbow Country
I've just received a request for information that I thought I'd pass on to everyone. Why is Manitoulin Island known as "Rainbow Country?" Let us know your thoughts... or facts. THANKS! |

Is it because there is a lot of gay people there? |

Considering that I've heard it being called Rainbow Country for almost 50 years now I think that pre-dates the gay "rainbow" reference.

Anyone coming to the "Rainbow Country" reunion this summer? Sure hope my old buddy Buckley Petawabano can make it! |

Well now we know. The Manitoulin area is known as "Rainbow Country" because of the television show that was filmed near here many years ago. I remember watching this show regularly and even now I confess to checking it out on the old rerun channels occasionally. |
