Re: looking old blood lines

I had a gyp that was Grindstone bred, If Im not mistaken she had a couple crosses of Gangster Jake showing in the 4th and 5th generation, and a few more if you went back a little more. I think she was Grindstone Quicktrac X Grindstone Belle B. She was registered as Foxcross Tippy...(I think, its been a couple years) I couldnt break her, gave her back to the buddy who gave her to me. I think he traded her to another guy, last I heard she was being deer hunted. But I know that gyp went back to the gangster jake dog quite a bit, at least on papers. If you can find someone with a cross like that you might find what you were looking for

Re: looking old blood lines

i might have to run a trace on that dog..i was hopeing someone from up around boydton area or someone who does line breding on either hound-lines would jump in on this.gangster-jake was owned by legrand..monk mosley from bracey[died years ago]got the beaver pond paler breeding from him also i think.so somewhere there is some of it around.it probally won't show on paper now...probally would take an older hunter would remember these hounds.older like me,

Re: Re: looking old blood lines

I think My buddy traded that gyp to Cluade Carr...not 100% but think thats who got her from him. She ran well, was small frame but put together nice, just went deer crazy. Clyde Mercia, in culpeper va raised her. alot of that grindstone seems to go to Gangster jake, and he has line bred his hounds for a while, Im sure that gyp had alot of that breeding. HE might be able to produce you a brood gyp, or young hound with plenty of that stock in it.

Re: Re: looking old blood lines

I dont have his number, ...if you make a post with the topic asking for Clyde Mercia's Phone number Im sure some people on here will know it. Alot of people in this part of Va hunt his stock and quite a few have built there kennels around his stock.

Re: looking old blood lines

Our kennel is 90% Grindstone, much going back to Gangster Jake. From what all the old timers have told me Jake was one heck of a dog.
