Deer Hunting with Hounds in Virginia Banned in 2009

Bet that got your attention. Keep on ignoring the problem that faces us and you can make this come true.57,000 deer hunters in Virginia and you act like you don't care what happens. As a member of the SAC, I have received 600 e mails related to the study. That is from the anti's, hound hunters of all types and landowners. 7 million people, with 106,000 hound hunters in Virginia. THIS IS PITIFUL!!! Harry Lamb has an entry identifying the poor attendence in Bowling Green. This coming week the meetings are at Appomattox and Suffolk. If you have not made plans to attend one of these meetings than odds are you are not looking to go. You will take the chance and let someone else fight your battle. YOUR STUPID!!! If that offends you, you need to be. Now!! like never before, you must come out and make a showing. If we do not pack both off these buildings, we will have missed our best opportunity to make the biggest statement. You must attend!!! Your entire club should be there. I have done all that I can to shake you awake. Now it's up to you. I encourage speakers to plan well. Use your allotted time, pre-write your comment, speak clear and speak intellegent. Remember, everything you say will represent all of us. Don't waste your time arguing whether the study was founded or not. That is a mute point. The study is near done. Take the time to comment on what you think about the study results, will they improve the problems? If not, why? What is your idea? RTR is very controversal, What do you suggest? What about a deer hound training season? Is it needed? will it help in resolving problems with still hunters? This is the information that we are looking for. You can argue your disagreement w/ the study if you want. It will just bring a yawn from the SAC. We are beyond that.

Jim you are right whole hunt clubs need to be in attendance at these meetings. Not every member needs to get up to speak chose your best speaker. But you can be sure that the anti hunting groups and anti dog groups are going to get involved soon. Land owners got up and wanted to know where were their rights and stated that they had no rights as a land owner. Don't think that these cries are going unheard.

Re: Re: Deer Hunting with Hounds in Virginia Banned in 2009

this is no different than MSN [Mandatory Spay/Neuter] introduced in California, Chicago, and in hundreds of other locations; no different than the anti-tethering proposals, no different that BSL [Breed Specific Legislation], no different than gun control; if you care about your personal freedoms and rights you have to get involved.
There are literally thousands of bills introduced every year in every state/county/city that effect the way we live. If we don't speak up NOW, it will be too late later.
like politics, if you don't vote you don't have a right to complain! And if you don't vote, you may not even HAVE! the right to vote later on anything else. Amazing how much of our personal freedoms are being eroded every year (day!).
Thanks Pat! you said it just right!
Hope y'all have a safe holiday!

The officers of every hunt club have the responsibility of representing their club at each meeting. If you don't show up, it makes a pretty clear statement on your qualities as an officer. As stated above, those that have the gift of public speaking should be well prepared. Don't take this opportunity to just shoot off at the mouth. Read the SAC proposals and be informed before you express your opinions. We want to hear your opinions but, we want to hear clear, logical view points that can help the process.

hey jim this is a direct quote from rick h's site

""I went to the public hearing last night and was the only person that stood up and spoke about changing the right to retrieve law. I was in a room full of hound owners and hunters"

so it must have went well for us.either he was the only landowner there or it wasnt a problem with the ones that were there

Thats what the real problem is a few Ricks out there making big noises and causing a knee jerk reaction that the sky is falling.

Re: Deer Hunting with Hounds in Virginia Banned in 2009

I read in a newspaper article where the Warrenton meeting had better than 500 in attendence, somewhere like 50 people spoke, all but 2 were on the hound hunters side. The 2 that were against spoke on changing RTR.

According to a fellow SAC member. It looked real bad for the other team. The Warrenton meeting was dominated by MFHA, they came loaded for bear and did an outstanding job for our cause. Their organization has been a heck of a help. Thank goodness they are on our side. I would like to see all hound hunters come together like that and live by a code of ethics that they practice daily.

Guys i was at the meeting last night and out of about 25 or 30 speakers there were only about 2 people that opposed hunting with hounds and one of them was just against hunting period!!! I have no idea what the vdgif is looking for but if its negativity towards hounds and hunters i assure you they didnt find it in that auditorium last night!!!

Re: Deer Hunting with Hounds in Virginia Banned in 2009

But McMullen said that they had over 3,000 emails and letters.

I could root around the internet a few days and find hacker ware that would send 30,000.

I am not saying those were 3,000 from the same person.

I am trying to point out that McMullen has no idea who they are from and never should have mentioned it.

I fall back to my original statement this morning.

No person should serve on any committe, be a paid consultant or in any way be working for VDGIF that is not an enthusiastic supporter of hunting and who will "work diligently" (taken from their own mission statement) to encourage the same.

Perhaps we do have problems. Everyone else I know does, but we have too many of the wrong people working on the problems.

Re: Deer Hunting with Hounds in Virginia Banned in 2009

Hey found this on another site here in NC. This guy lives in Va and I know he is against dogs...

"I was in one of the focus group meetings. I am pretty sure there will be changes. there were less than 20 of us there, and many had very deep pockets, and were friends with the governor, and they all wanted major changes to the laws."
