I have not used the "Plus Bus" ticket facility, but have used the 601 Prudhoe Town Service and the 604 bus service to reach the interchange (I live in the east end of Castlefields, a mile from the station).
Frankly, "Bus Meets Train" should really be called "Bus Just Misses Train", as the 601 rarely seems to leave enough time for adequate connections, or pulls out of the interchange before trains arrive. Robert Forsythe is quite correct - the 601 timetable is something to be marvelled at, if you can get a copy. I've asked the County Council Public Transport department to put it on their website, but they haven't yet... no publicity, few passengers - no surprise, really!
