Why is this cup final a 6.30 kick off when the Dartmouth cup final was a 6.45 kick off which ended as a farce with the game played out in dangerous conditions!!!??? |

The kick of time has been brought forward for tonights game. Last year the weather was much better than this year and we have to learn by this by reviewing the kick off times. As i have said before it is not just two teams that make the cup finals, officials etc have to be there and we have 10 cup finals to oversee and work commitments do not allow us to take time off every Monday and Friday. Moan over!! |

It doesn't really answer my question Hilly, because 2 previous finals were abandoned due to the light prior to last Friday's game!!! I applaud the decision to bring tonight's kick off forward, maybe that's the leagues way of saying sorry for last Friday's farce!!? |

I know your all gonna say this should be on another thread but its been a massive problem this year with it getting to dark before the finals finishes. What are the SDL gonna do about our game (Bucks 3rds vs Denbury) Friday night? We're already having to replay it because it was to dark for extra time and Friday they give it cloudy, possibly rain....!!!!! Well done Bovey, possible double on the cards!! |

tonights game was originally scheduled for 7.00 tonight but sdl changed it to 6.30 after the dartmouth debacle with agreemants of both clubs, and then that big timer hayward decided to put it back to 6.45 20 mins before kickoff at the annoyance of several people, he was lucky it didnt go to penalty's as it would have been to dark. this man is a liability to the sdl and gives the others a bad name by association |

From a neutral point of view, that was the best match I have watched this season at any level. The skill level and pace of the game was an absolute credit to both clubs, managers and players. Bovey 1-0 (Sneap from 2 yards), K&C took a 2-1 lead with two headers from set pieces. HT. Bovey equalised after an hour, then K&C restored their lead from the penalty spot. There was a flurry of substitutions, and there were chances at both ends as Bovey stretched the play. As the clock ticked down Chris Jones volleyed in a Simon Revell free-kick to square it up. As referee Dave Corderoy blew for full time a K&C player lashed a thirty yard screamer into the Bovey net.......no goal. Play was held up for 10 minutes during the first period of extra-time as Chris Jones received treatment for what looked a nasty injury but he was able to hobble on. In the second period Bovey took the lead with a close range effort that squeezed under keeper Martin Cuss. K&C then had a player sent-off after an ill-timed challenge, and Bovey wrapped it up when Mark Dyson scored after a fine solo run. As a cup final, it had so many ingredients that the Herald Cup final didn't. Fantastic game, on a very well prepared pitch...well done everybody. |

Agree with that entirely, Rocky. Big talking point- the goal or no goal at the end of 90 minutes. Was the whistle blown before it was hit? As to the anonymous knockers having a go at Barry Hayward, I also agree with Phil Lloyd. If you have an opinion that involves the criticism of someone else, then have the ballls to put your name to it, or keep it to yourself. What say you, Webmaster? |

A superb game between to excellent sides, thought Bovey edged it from 2nd half on, Unlucky to KK for the goal on fulltime whistle! But it had quite clearly been blown im sure Kk will back this up. Keep that team and Kerswell will be challenging for title next season. |

Andi Flack, any suggestions? The kick off is 6.30p.m. Any earlier and we would have problems with officials and officers and spectators getting there after work let alone the ground staff to get the pitch organised, as we are all voluntary. If you have any ideas post them on here, i would be interested in reading them. I suppose we could have cup finals on a saturday but then you would have a backlog of fixtures if you have a good cup run, there is not many solutions to this problem. |

On a positive note, there are clubs that will have floodlights by next season which may help. Last night game was really enjoyable, i think KK&C shaded it over the first 90. Mr Corderoy had definitely started to blow for full time before the Kerswell player took his shot. Penalties would have been fine if Jonesy hadn't needed a 10 minute power nap during extra time.... |

May 13th, 2008 - 12:10 PM |
Lisa, obviously the earlier the kick off time the better and if 6.30 is the earliest you can make it that will have to do. Does Stoke have floodlights? Only played there once and didn't pay much attention. I'm only concerned as can you imagine how frustrated the players will be if they get to extra time and its to dark to play again, what then? I know it has to be shared out over then SDL football clubs but surely next season it has to be given to clubs with floodlights first, especially the top games (div 3 to the premiership league cup finals). In our game Friday I would not have any complaints if we only had 7-10 minutes at half time instead of 15 minutes (you'd have to ask the rest of the team if they agree though). I'm not complaining about the SDL but just worried as it looks like Friday will be cloudy and games between us two teams can sometimes be very close |

i bet denbury can field a full side this friday seeing that they decided against playing at all on saturday as they didnt have 11!! they surely could have fielded a team of 7! |

why not have a finals weekend where 2 games can be played at a ground. for example 3pm and 5 30pm. its easier to play a league game mid week and finals on a week end. 4 cup finals in a weekend , great excitement and good revenue.i am sure clubs would bite sdl hand off to host such an occasion . i know ours would. |

May 13th, 2008 - 2:14 PM |
That's not a bad idea, although I think you'd want more time between games so that changing rooms etc can be cleared, and to allow for changover of supporters as not everyone may be interested in both games. Maybe 1.00 and 4.30 to allow for extra time and penalties. |

I was at the game last night and I agree with Paul, it was one of the best games I have seen for a long time. Real end to end. The atmosphere there was also very good, felt a little sorry for KK&C as they played well for the 90. Well Done Bovey who in extra time were just to strong for them. great effort for the last goal, but I thought the turning point of the game was the hairy ginger lad coming on |

The kick-off Friday is 6.30. There are no lights at Stoke Gabriel. However, if players are all in agreement I don't mind shortening the half time interval. It will be about what the evening is like. Last night's game ran into trouble because it kicked off at 6.45, would still have been OK except for a couple lengthy injuries in extra time- you can't legislate for that, really. With a 6.30 ko, then unless it's a dull evening, there shouldn't be any problem going all the way if need be. Still not happy about the attacks on Barry Hayward, Mr Webmaster. Directing nasty criticism from behind an assumed name shouldn't have any place on this forum. If the people concerned knew the amount of work Barry puts into local football, they would hang their heads in shame. |

here here Tony, the likes of Barry dont just turn up for cup finals, look at the fixture lists then the re-arranged fixtures thats b4 he trys to accomadate teams with ref's, i think the whole of the SDL committee deserve more credit than they are given. |

The people that moan the most are normally the people that have nothing to do with any clubs that are involved. I saw Barry there last night and In all honestly the night went without a hitch. like what has been posted before the game had plenty of light apart from 1 long layoff for an injury to a Bovey player. That cant be helped or predicted. |

Observer, I have no intention of getting into a dispute as to whether Barry was right or wrong. He is the Fixture and Referees Secretary, i am only his assistant so he has the authority over me and he is also a qualified Referee so he knows better than me what time to kick off allowing for extra time and penalties. The weather is in the hand of the gods!! |

the mix up about the kick off time we were told was down to th eHerald Express putting the original time down. Paul Green came up to us before the game and asked if it would be a problem holding back till 6.45 as he didint want anyone to turn up at 6.45 and have missed 15 mins of the game. we agreed ! Not Barry's fault in the least, he came over to double check that we were fine. |

Perhaps Paul was asked to tell the clubs that and it wasn't his decision, especially as he is always blamed for things so makes him an easy escape goat. Lisa you assist????????? More like take the flack when it all goes wrong and then sort it all out! But i probably shouldn't comment as i don't do anything at these finals!! lol |

Of course if Buckland get awarded the game next year it will matter what time they kick off, I believe that their floodlights will be installed this summer. If the game was running a bit late like Monday they can just turn the lights on. Someboby said that the pylons had already been delivered. |

U mean the answer phone will take the flack! lol Barry has always been helpful to me and gents and I have no problems with him. Just being on the execuctive comittee opens your eyes to ALOT of things and I get fed up with the wrong people being blamed for the stuff they didn't do. I've been stood next to both lisa and paul when they have had people having a go at them for things they didn't do. I personally admit when i've made a mistake (before anyone else points it out!) and I find it frustrating that others don't do the same and then make it worse by letting others take the blame. |

Nice to see a thread about what i believe to be one of the best games of local football in years being overshadowed by the time of the kick off. Well done KK&C and Bovey on a great game that I know everyone there enjoyed and watched till the end and yes it was still visable. |
