Buckland v Denbury

Yes Buckland did hammer em 5-1...but the game will be remembered for a disgraceful 'elbow' by Pete Heywood (yet again) that left Paul Sharples with a triple fracture of the jaw and requiring surgery. Sharples in hospital awaitng 3 plates to be inserted.
Im sure it was Heywood who caused injury to another Buckland player in last years cup final????

Re: Buckland v Denbury

I was stood in the corner nearest the challenge, the player led with his forearm/elbow, it was blatant, the referee was behind the incident so would not have seen. Sharples was winning every ball in the air for Buckland and paid the price....this sort of challenge just shows how weak and desperate some players are...respect to the remaining players on the field, they played the game out in respectable fashion...Mr Heywood needs to be watched, 2 nasty incidents in 2 seasons, both against Buckland........his old club........

Re: Buckland v Denbury

Great result today, just got to keep the bandwagon rolling with performances like today. A lot of players out today with injuries etc so a truely great result against our nearest rivals.
I know i say this for all our players, Sharpey get well soon, you're gonna be missed and didnt deserve what happened to you

The previous 3 posts copied from 'Div 6 title race' think this deserves its own topic. Incidents like these are not acceptable, the lad in question could now lose his job!

Re: Buckland v Denbury

Seems that the ref couldn't see the incident, irrespective of who it was.

Unfortunately, local football offers the propensity for louts and hooligans to cause serious injury - I hope justice is metered out to the aggressor, albeit through the right channels.

We all play for fun and the love of the game, and no-one deserves to be injured so severely, on purpose.

Hope the lad gets well soon.

Re: Buckland v Denbury

do any of the denbury lot want to give there view on it instead of just the biased view from that backward lot at homers heath...... good result for buckland just shame its come at a cost for a good footballer and a nice lad

Re: Buckland v Denbury

Without entering into a debate just gonna say my bit. I was right next to it and didn't see an elbow raised. It was a very nasty clash of heads with Paul landing heavily. Whether he meant it or not only the player knows but he said he didn't. Now knowing the full extent of Paul's injury couldn't care about the result, would rather have lost and Paul been OK but its happened now so just hope he gets well soon and we win the league for him

Re: Buckland v Denbury

Everyone has their own thoughts on what happened yesterday, as far as I see it, it was an awful clash of heads between 2 players who always go into a challenge 100%. Pete Heywood is a good player and I am sure would never intentionally go into a challenge to injure a player. Sharpey is of the very same mould and will be missed by us, he's been outstanding since joining from Bovey. Emotions were running high yesterday (myself included) as it was such an important game, but this could have happened in any game. Thankfully we managed an outstanding result which has been duly dedicated to Sharpey.

Re: Buckland v Denbury

Paul's operation went very well last night and even managed to speak on the phone. Can't believe it took 28 hours before they got him into surgery but at least it's sorted now apart from the 3 months recuperation time!!
Not gonna say a lot on the incident but all I will say is if Heywood is innocent why did he not immediately go over and make sure Sharpy was ok rather than wander off. If I had done that to any player and it was an accident I myself would have been distraught especially after seeing the damage done certainly don't think I could carry on the game as if nothing had happened!

Re: Buckland v Denbury

Just spoke to 3rd team manager and he said Mr Guy has phoned the club to see how Paul was and said they would like to help out if they could. Also said Mr Guy asked on behalf of Pete for Pauls phone number as he wanted to contact him.

Some good news is that Paul is home now and can hopefully get better as soon as possible

Re: Buckland v Denbury

I'm sure that Pete has his own contacts that he could speak to to obtain Pauls phone number, remember he was connected with bucks, like the old bloke at the back said denbury are quick enough to come on here when it suits them
