Gents 2-1 Hele. Finally a win will it be enough to keep us up? we will have to wait and see. |

Liam McAuley got the first and Ashley Hoare got the second, both well worked goals. Hele were struggling for a keeper so Tommo went in and despite being a bit unorthodox was pretty effective. As Millsy said hopefully 28 points will be enough to keep us up. |

'why would you say that'...come on hilly, who you trying to kid? galmpton players are all talking about it. so gents finally bow out by merging with the greens. shrewd move by galmpton, a team in the peninsula league, a team in SDL prem and 1 in SDL 2. and gaining some good players too. |

What will this club be called? Galmpton Gents? Galmpton & Torbay Gents? Torbay & Galmpton United? None of the above because the club is going to be called GALMPTON UNITED the end of Torbay Gents is nigh this is not an amalgamation of 2 clubs at all this is Galmpton's only way to recruit players for next season - FORCE THEM TO SIGN BY TAKING OVER THEIR CLUB - I feel sorry for Hilly he will look awful in Green! |

The official name will be "Galmpton Utd & Torbay Gentlemen FC". What we are actually known as remains to be seen although I think Galmpton Gents is favourite. Gents have gone as far as they can in their current form, we are a team competing with clubs so this is seen as a positive move by us. The team which I will manage will play in our current red and Black Kit, and retain our second blue and white kit. As far as I'm aware Galmpton aren't struggling for players, the reserves look good for promotion and the 1st team remain in the Peninsula league. If it works as all parties want it to we will be a very strong club. |

would i be right in thinking hilly that a 3rd team could be on the horizon. seems they'll be to many players for the one team. |

think you've missed the point here phil, there will be 3 teams, 1 in the p.enis league, 1 in the prem (formerly known as gents) and 1 in div 1. galmpton gents...brilliant....and not even a new kit? surely if galmpton are taking you under their wing then they should be supplying new kit in the galmpton colours, otherwise it's not really a merger is it? more galmpton just getting a load of players (and fair play to them) at the expense of gents, who will be banished to SDL history. shame for a club who worked all these years to achieve prem status and are now going to throw all that away to be used by galmpton, who lets be honest are only looking after number 1 in this 'deal'. |

May 2nd, 2008 - 5:33 PM |
Now who's missing the point. We're merging with another club not being taken under anybodies wing. maybe you could look at it from another perspective, Gents are gaining a Peninsula team and a reserve side? The Gents name will live on, and be protected for the future, we've made sure of that. |

that's not what i meant. with a penisula team, a prem team and a div 1 team the next thing is a 3rd team in the sdl perhaps the next step for a youth set up. |

good luck for next season hope it all works out. when ymrc joined forces with dartmouth utd every one said it would end in tears and look at them now. at the end of the day two clubs fighting for funds to survive join forces, only one out come a stronger club. good luck.

but dartmouth arnt called dartmouth utd ymca. i cant c how. its like all 3 brixham teams merging but keeping 1st team as brix villa 2nd team brix utd 3rd team brix town. i dont think any league worth there salt would allow it. so how can you have galmpton gents or wotever they will b called in the prem and galmpton utd in div 1 but players can play 4 both teams |

look at what gents and galmpton both gain. gents keep their name their own pitch/clubhouse something for the players to aim for (peninsula league) more money from supporters through the gate. and galmpton get more players 3 very decent teams more back-up from sdl comittee members. the dartmouth thing only came about after the older comittee members left both clubs, ymrc president raised 3000 pounds a season for the team and so did the united board whats the piont in two teams fighting over that kind of cash when its easier to make one club out of two and pool the money. ive been through it and it can only be a good thing. |

The three teams will come under 'Glampton United & Torbay Gents'. New name for the 'whole' club that has 3 teams. It gives the division 1 lads a chance to play in the premier next season as well as division 1. Surely thats not a bad thing? We will be sharing the pitch at clennon. We don't always play there as I book other pitches when clennon is off which tend to be a better choice anyway. |

good luck to the teams concerned, and this is not a criticism of them, but of the facilities provided by Torbay Council. Is Clennon fit to host div 1 matches let alone premier div games ? Perhaps some of the vast sums claimed by the councillors could be used to fund better facilities for the forgotten footballers of the bay. |

Why do a club with the history and tradition of Galmpton United want to lose their own identity? If Galmpton want some of Gents' better players, then sign them. Gents (who have had a meteoric rise in recent seasons) will then find a level within the SDL where their facilities and lack of players dictates. |

I think this has got completly out of hand 2 clubs are merger to make one stronger club Totnes & Dartington,Dartmouth Ymrc & Utd and Kingkerswell & Chelston have all merged look at the sucess they have all had. If people are so bitter then why did they not do something more constructive while they were at the club. It seems all they want to do is destroy people and make accusations about peoples lives without even having the decency to put thier name to posts and if they want to get so personal then at least have the bravery to say who they are. I cant wait for the new season to start and the new club to move forward. If the bitter people with no names have so much time and energy on thier hands why dont they put to good use and join a commitee of a local club and drive them forward. |

Thanks jules, cooney and phil for your support. People will always aim low when you're good at a job. And I am a good at this, I've done alot for the club and will always listen to my players comments but you're not one of my lads so would prefer you not to comment on my role. Your comment was out of order, if i was a bloke you wouldn't have even thought of saying anything like that. Webmaster would prefer the comment from old boy to be removed. |
