Hello, Thacker Mountain Radio fans.
Another big week ... perhaps our biggest. On the show this Thursday, October 14,
we welcome KINKY FRIEDMAN, the renowned musician, author, humorist, activist,
maker of fine salsa and coffee and 2006 candidate for governor of Texas. Kinky
appears in support of his new book, 'SCUSE ME WHILE I WHIP THIS OUT, a
collection of twisted vignettes that only the Kinkster could deliver. Friedman
gives us funny, irreverent, and insightful looks at outsized personalities, from
people he's known -- Bill Clinton and George W. to Willie Nelson and Bob Dylan,
not to mention Joseph Heller and Don Imus -- to people he's known in spirit --
Moses, Jesus, Jack Ruby, and Hank Williams. With his meditations on subjects
ranging from sleeping at the White House to marriage, his pets, fishing in
Borneo, country music, cigars, and the tribulations of possessing talent. A
noted songwriter and leader of the Texas Jewboys, Kinky has agreed to perform a
few songs for us as well.
Also dropping by will be FRANCISCO GOLDMAN, whose novels 'The Long Night of
White Chickens' and 'The Ordinary Seaman' have drawn immense critical acclaim
and established him as an American voice of vital importance. He will talk a bit
about his third novel, THE DIVINE HUSBAND, which he signs and reads from at Off
Square Books on Friday, October 15.
Finally, our guest host band this week is GREG SPRADLIN, whose Little Rock
three-piece blends country gospel and blues rock. Think Duff Dorrough meets
North Mississippi All-Stars. Our old pal Jim Dickinson sits in with Greg and the
boys.
Jim Dees hosts what promises to be one a season highlight show. Be sure and get
a seat by 5:25 p.m. We go live at 5:30 and will host a book/CD signing to
follow. If you can't make it down to Off Square Books (at the Square end of Van
Buren, right next door to Old Venice Pizza), tune in to Bullseye 95.5 FM, either
by radio or live web stream -- http://bullseye955.com
